MORAL OF THE MONTH: VALOR
"Valor is stability, not of legs and arms, but of courage and the soul."
—Michel de Montaigne
People often associate valor with extraordinary acts. Valor often does entail courage in the face of danger or remarkable circumstances, but it is just as often about personal bravery. People who possess valor exude steadfastness and strength of mind, even when facing difficult challenges.
Valor is not always loud or obvious. Rather, it may often be subtle, like showing up to an event outside of your comfort zone or doing the right thing even when others do not. The choices and actions made in these decisive moments are what both shape and reveal an individual’s character.
"In valor there is hope."
—Publius Cornelius Tacitus
We can celebrate valor in our children’s everyday lives. By identifying acts like apologizing or making amends for wrongs committed, or pushing themselves out of their comfort zones to achieve a goal, we can teach our children that their brave choices make a difference and that valor helps not only ourselves, but those around us, as well.
